Dr Gwenda Kyd BSc(hons) CChem MRSC

Background:

I have an Honours degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh. I worked in academic research for 5 years before moving to Cambridge in 1999. After working for 14 years as a scientific editor, I became self-employed in 2014. Since then I have published two books on plants and their chemistry and uses and also worked on a range of chemistry-related publishing and education projects. I also give talks about chemistry relating to plants to groups in the Cambridge area. I am a chartered chemist and member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Tutoring Experience:

I am an Examiner for A level Chemistry and I have experience in tutoring students in Higher Chemistry, IGCSE (CIE) and A level Chemistry (OCR A, OCR B, Edexcel) and IB. I have also contributed to the production of Chemistry workbooks for IGCSE Chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

Chemistry is fun! But it can also be daunting. I want to help tutees get the most out of their opportunity to study the subject and inspire them to want to know more. Specifically, by discussion I will help identify any problem areas and together we will get to grips with them, working at the tutee’s pace. I aim to enhance the tutee’s knowledge and understanding of Chemistry and increase their confidence to allow them to tackle their exams to the best of their ability.
